Schnaiter Altenberg VDP.Grosse Lage
& Beutelsbacher Altenberg VDP.Erste Lage
In the aftermath of the Fellbach hail strikes of 2000, we acquired several vineyards 10 kilometers further down the Rems Valley in Schnait and Beutelsbach. Friend and landowner Wolfgang Lenz keeps an eye on the vines for us throughout the year. In addition to the Ortswein, we also produce an increasing number of single site wines to growing acclaim. We have replanted many vineyards. Given the VDP.Große Lage classification for the Beutelsbacher Burghalde, it seems destined to rise to greater prestige. The “Schnaiter Arena” featured in the video is a remarkable wine landscape.
The forest plays a greater role in the Rems Valley than it does in Fellbach, where the Stuttgart basin climate is dominant. In autumn, the temperatures stay cool and the fog endures longer. Although Silvaner was once important here, Riesling grown in reed sandstone has since claimed the spotlight. The steep sites of the Kosttobel and the fine sites on the Rieselgreut are poised to deliver premium Lemberger and Spätburgunder wines as their vines age into full maturity. Our wines grown from these sites deliver an exciting freshness and minerality.
